First: I promise not to send more than two of these non-Essay updates per year*
Second: I was recently invited on my first (!) podcast, which was a) fantastic and enough fun that I want to do more and b) a nice balance of measured exploration of the ideas behind my essays…and shooting from the hip & revealing a bit more of my thought process than usual.
Tune in here:
Thanks to Lorenzo for being an excellent host and guiding the conversation. It’s about twice as long as any podcast he’s hosted before, which shouldn’t surprise any of you who know me.
Third: I am moving the email-portion of my Essay writing over to Substack — despite my own impassioned defense of not doing this at the end of the podcast linked above. There are 3 reasons for this:
my personal website host has been charging me for the last 12 months to be able to send you all emails…they say “art is suffering”, but I much prefer VCs pay for these emails instead
subscribing to my Essays is unintuitive on my current platform and Substack offers an easier interface for new subscribers
my personal website host broke my RSS feed for my RSS subscribers (if you don’t know what RSS is, don’t worry about it)
I will continue to publish my essays on my personal website because I value the domain ownership, but this Substack will hopefully become the place for sending essays out and corresponding with readers. Feel free to comment directly on anything or send me a private email by hitting reply.
I imported my subscriber list, so there should be no action necessary on your part. If you want to share any of my essays, you have my full blessing to forward any and all emails or direct people to find me on Substack at radicalcontributions.substack.com
I also imported most of my essays onto Substack this weekend, so everything should be in one place, whichever place you prefer to read.
Lastly, I jotted some quick thoughts down ‘about’ what I’m doing and why under the About page, which you can find here: radicalcontributions.substack.com/about
If you’d really like to join the exclusive Paid subscriber tier, you do now have that option thanks to Lorenzo’s urging. Do consider thoughtfully the benefits listed on the Subscribe panel before making any decision on that front!
It turns out Substack constrains the potential pricing a bit, but I configured the Monthly option to be a terrible deal relative to the Annual tier because there’s no way I’m going to be publishing on a regular monthly cadence and I want to make sure expectations are set accordingly.
If you have any feedback, hit ‘reply’ and let me know!
*if I break this promise your legal rights include: unsubscribing, sending me a disappointed email, and tweeting your displeasure at me. Exceptions include: future podcast appearances.
Great name! Excited to read more.
